John Duran
has been cheffing for 35 years in San Francisco and Eugene. He completed his culinary apprenticeship in San Francisco, and earned a degree in Nutrition and Food Systems at OSU.
Now his passion is to teach basic culinary arts to primary school children. The class features local seasonal foods, market field trips, seed art, kitchen tools, and knowledge about food flavors.
John has been working with children of all ages for the last 10 years, and he teaches a kid's workshop in seed art at MECCA on weekends. Since 2002, he has led an outdoor field kitchen serving wholesome local foods for a popular teen program called Culture Jam.
John is an advocate for healthier school lunches, and volunteers with the Eugene Coalition for Better School Food. He wants to assist families in raising their children's awareness of Lane County's farmland and all the healthy farm products available. In these times, children need all our support in recognizing healthier foods for their lunch tray.
